Well it has been a long week for me, a very long week, but it has ended with that warm fuzzy feeling in my belly. My first day of the working week was not a normal one, I had to change a few clients around as one of them was in need of support earlier than planned. I was right to make the change as a short visit turned in to one with double digits and emergency services support.
I always say that we are not in this job to make millions but rather to make a difference because some of the things that we see or do isn’t for everyone. If you are the right person for the job then you naturally make connections with the clients, you create a “us” mentality so that when they face difficulty they know that it isn’t them against it but rather us against it. However when they hit their lows you can often feel similar emotions too and this requires something else from within and the help of the management and directors, who are always a phone call away.
I wont go in to details about who, what or where but I had a client hit a point where they felt that there was no other option but to ask for help in a way that without words. However Social Services supported us to make sure that the client was well supported, additional hours makes for a slightly worn out support worker but one that was pleased to see a client unwind or become unburdened. It is the end of the working week and I sit here, surrounded by loved ones, surrounded by the sound of happy loved ones discussing the details of some computer game and a feeling that I made a difference to my client who’s “thank yous” were still ringing in my ears.
I know that we are once again recruiting but what I feel makes us difference is the companies desire to match people to the client, the right people, instead of just taking on cases for the pay check. The company isn’t in it to make millions but to make a difference, they too love that warm fuzzy feeling in their belly too.
