This blog isn’t to overlook the client’s needs and wants but something to compliment the other blogs on our website from the point of view of our staff. We feel that it is important to give a whole view of what happens within our industry and offer points to discuss further – discussion is powerful.

Today was a difficult one for me as I feel helpless and as if I haven’t done enough. My visit with a client saw me sat there trying to engage in conversation whilst they sat there in pain. Now I am not medical trained so curing them was not an option but I tried to make them smile, until it became too painful. I tried to get them engaging in conversation but they had been up most of the night in pain so were not able to hold much of a conversation. All I could do was get them the antibiotics from the pharmacy and that didn’t sit well with me.

This is where the right personality is important because I will drop them a message before my next visit. I will use it to make sure that they are feeling better and getting the support that they need because being a support worker isn’t a normal 9-5 job, it is a passion. Our clients need to know that we care about them and their health, be that physical and mental.
