Growing our own vegetables is something that many of us do, including one of our clients. They have had it for less than a year but I still haven’t been able to get down to see it until this week. When I got there it was amazing to see them calm and confident, telling me about each row, how long they needed to be there for and even identifying them from a bit of greenery poking above the soil.
They asked me to water the onions and, whilst I was, it got me thinking about how similar my role was to that of an allotment owner. My role is to offer them a bit of support, making sure that the things around them provide the best chance of growth. Offering nutrients in the shape of days out, working through bills and making sure that life is balanced helps our clients flourish and grow.
Having mental health doesn’t mean that you can’t grow, it just means that, like the vegetables my client tends to on a weekly basis, they just need some tending to also.
